VOTE BAIYU FOR A COMMON SENSE STUDENT'S UNION
Having served you for the past three years as Student Representative, we watched helpless as our student satisfaction rates plummeted, our elected officers kicked out, and our study spaces robbed from us. The Student Union has represented KCL to us rather than the other way around.
Let your voices be heard, vote to take back control!

There is no better place to see what we stand for than through reading the Manifest on TEAM BAIYU'S OFFICIAL WEBSITE:

LONDON, 17 February, 2025 – The Baiyu Liu Presidential Campaign Committee (“Campaign Committee”) manifesto represents the composite work of a group of student representatives with the vision of a better future and a Student Union under competent governance.

Common Sense Nominee for KCLSU President Baiyu Liu declared:
“As your KCLSU President, I will Transform King’s with Common Sense Solutions. We will Elevate League Table Rankings, Improve Alumni Experience, Cut The Waste, and Fix King’s Services.”
“This transformative plan will Cut Overspending, Bring Back The Jobs, End The Rip-Off Prices, Expand Prayer Rooms, and Impose a Student Wellbeing Levy on Big Corporations Booking Out KCL Venues. Our Campus, Our Choice!”
“We will follow Imperial College London’s Example in holding a Referendum to Exit the NUS, who suck up £37,500/year, with Nothing In Return (other than the Pointless NSS Survey): KCLSU Money For KCLSU Students!”
“We shall realise the ambitions of our predecessors in Building A Student’s Assembly. Made up of Society Presidents and Student Representatives. KCLSU is the Student’s Voice to KCL, NOT The Other Way Round.”
Co-Chairman of the Campaign Committee, Niwa Limbu, declared:
“This campaign believes in the importance of detailed plans that work and calls on others to do the same. We are not just about conversation. We Are Here To Take Action.”
“Many members of the Campaign Committee have worked within the Student Union over the past three years and have actively worked to enact change and oppose the complex bureaucracy that has encumbered the progress of the Student Union in its service to King’s students.”
“We have blundered from One L To Another, That Ends Now.”

CAMPAIGN MANIFESTO
Our Pledge to the Student Union
Student Assembly
We will carry the torch of our forebears in continuing to call for a student assembly, made up of student representatives and society presidents, to represent the voice of our students to KCLSU and its Board of Trustees and governors. We will finally have an administration that tells the KCLSU why our demands are necessary, as opposed to one that tells the students why their policies are impossible.
Empower Our University
The KCLSU’s unelected non-student officers’ consistent attempts at power grabs to undercut our university’s influence, such as the recent Articles of Association (AoA) amendments, are an appalling attack on our institution of education. Our university is a regulating force on KCLSU autocracy, as it is apparent to everyone that the Student Union is not run by students. Our university provides us far more support than KCLSU could ever hope to do, and the loyalty of the students is towards the university rather than the Union. Therefore, dictatorship of the board of trustees is the dictatorship of the board of governance. The only way we can offset the influence of KCLSU unelected officials is through empowering our university to speak up on our behalf. If KCLSU is to have a say in KCL, then KCL should have a say at KCLSU!
Governance Officer:
Even though our Student Officers and Trustees are elected, it is apparent who truly calls the shots. We pledge to diminish the influence of the “advisors” who control the agenda from behind the scenes.
Student Officer Accountability
Student officers should only be removed by a majority vote of no-confidence by the accountability panel and the student assembly.
Lay Trustees
Our Board of Trustees is made up of a deciding 28% vote from Lay Trustees, as opposed to Student Officers and Student Trustees. Lay Trustees are unelected. This is an absolute farce and spits in the face of our democracy.
King’s Kitchen
Discontinue “Meatless Monday” and “Veganuary” by introducing ethically sourced meat options in the kitchens. We will also improve Vegan and Vegetarian options already available. King’s Kitchen should also open at 11am rather than 12pm to be more accommodating to students. We will wholeheartedly support small British farmers and we disapprove of importing foods halfway across the world which could be grown locally. We will implement a Food Quality and Hygiene Committee of students to oversee the KCL restaurants for food quality and authenticity to the respective international cuisines. We will Bring Back the Meats!
Merch Shop
We will move the production of KCLSU Merchandise (hoodies, bags, etc.) to the Chinese Cities of Shenzhen and Shanghai to reduce manufacturing costs and increase textile quality. This will bring down the price of merchandise so more of our students could afford it. £60 for a hoodie is insanity! Merch is not sufficiently stocked, moving production to higher volume manufacturers would also alleviate this issue.
Rework MCF
Improve leniency on Mitigating Circumstance Forms (MCF) to be more accommodating for extraordinary circumstances and allow an appeals process to the student union after rejection. Implement a student jury of academic representatives to peer review circumstances during the appeals process.
Our Pledge to Student Wellbeing
Student Wellbeing Levy
We will impose a Student Wellbeing Levy on external companies renting out KCL venues. We have the best venues at the heart of Central London, which are rightly the perfect venues for company events. To raise money for our ambitious plans to Transform King’s, we will impose a levy of 15% on all external companies booking out our venues which do not directly benefit our students. Career Fairs and other such events that are relevant to our students’ wellbeing and welfare will be exempt. This incentivises external companies to work with our Societies when hiring our venues to avoid paying the levy. This also alleviates the difficulty of our societies in booking venues, only to find everything booked out by external companies. All revenues raised will be put directly towards improving Student Wellbeing and Societies.
Eradicate the rats on campus
We will train Lenny The KCL Cat to strive to be the best rat-catcher at Guy’s Campus. We will also install a campus cat on Strand Campus to clean up the rats coming over from LSE (unless they wear an appropriate Visitor’s badge). We will hire health and wellbeing inspectors to reduce the risk that rats pose to our wellbeing both in campus and in student accommodations.
Meadow at Strand
Create a new Meadow study area at Strand Campus. The Meadow is a well-beloved quiet study space for our students, and the removal of it in February 2025 is a travesty to our students. We will reinstate it at Strand with money raised through the Student Wellbeing Levy and our “Cut the Waste” initiatives.
Interruption to Studies Support
Due to one reason or another, many of our students take Interruption to Studies. We pledge to offer the maximum wellbeing support and guidance to our disruption year students before, during and after their leave of absence. We will also support and reduce the barriers to studying abroad schemes.
Student Mental Health Wellbeing
We pledge to tackle mental health and loneliness on campus. Currently, there is a 6-8 week delay in King’s Counselling Service, This Is Not Good Enough. We will introduce Group Therapy Sessions and open more outreach channels for our students.
General Health Wellbeing
While certain female toilets have sanitary product dispensers, we believe all female toilets should distribute free sanitary products. We will continue the fight for more free sanitary products and contraceptives distributed on campus, as well as easier access to NHS services for our students.
Our Pledge to Cut The Waste
NUS Referendum
The National Union of Students (NUS) is a redundant “Union of Unions” which unionises the student unions across the UK. Over the past few years, the NUS has turned away from its stated position of political neutrality and has thus been swamped with controversy after controversy on issues such as Islamophobia, Antisemitism, Homophobia and other forms of hate. The president of the NUS is not elected through direct democracy, as only a select number of delegates have the power to vote. KCLSU pays the NUS £37,500 in associate membership fees annually, and gets back the National Student Survey (NSS) in return, which our students hate filling out. The NUS membership fee accounts for more money than all other KCLSU memberships combined. After seeing Imperial College London’s successful withdrawal from the NUS and longstanding success as an independent Student Union since 2008, we shall also endorse the campaign for calling a referendum on Leaving the NUS. This will cut the £37,500, giving it to our Student Societies in return. We believe Student Unions should be run independently and oppose efforts to “unionize the unions”.
Efficiency
Increase the number of student volunteers and part-time student staff through reducing the number of full-time KCLSU staff. Currently there are over 70 KCLSU full time unelected positions, this bureaucracy is way too bloated and the money could be better spent directly on the students.
Encourage Work from Home
According to the latest KCLSU Annual Report (22/23), KCLSU paid £3,267,302 in College Space charge to KCL for the expensive London Real Estate space. We will encourage KCLSU staff to work from home and reduce the office space of KCLSU in order to pay for more student space, such as installing the Meadow.
Our Pledge to Student Futures
Student Career Opportunities
This campaign recognises the paramount importance of career opportunities to our students. We believe going for further studies in an expensive city such as London is an investment that our students chose, therefore we will do everything in our power to promote job opportunities and employability of our students. We are thinking of your next steps before you are! We will campaign for fair, equal access to opportunities for all students: People Before Privilege.
Expand Careers Fair
Our Careers Fair is one of the best ways for our students to network with potential future employers. We pledge to expand this to the size of the Freshers’ Fair through inviting more international companies as we know not all students will stay in the UK after graduation. These companies want employees, and our students want jobs. Our Careers Fair will be one of the biggest events in all of London.
Careers Fair Rework
Our students are unhappy with how employers which have no interest in hiring from our university take up slots in career fairs. We will make sure booths only go to companies that have job vacancies and have allocated internship/ full-time job positions for our students. We will make sure companies give a pledge of an allocated number of students they will hire before they are given the valuable booths in our career fairs. Spots at the KCL Careers Fairs are highly competitive, we aim to ensure they are allotted to companies interested in providing the best opportunities for our students and alumni. We shall waste no time on time wasters!
Research Assistant Jobs
Encourage research staff to prioritise allocating Research Assistant (RA) roles to students from KCL. We will reduce Visiting Research Assistant Programmes which exclusively hire external students for jobs within our university. They are stealing the jobs of perfectly qualified KCL students!
Undergraduate Shadowing Schemes
We will partner up with more companies, research institutions and hospitals to offer our students opportunities for Shadowing Schemes. We believe these schemes are the best way for our students to write good things on their CV.
Alumni Employability
Increase alumni and external recruitment events to improve employability after graduation. We will increase the maximum limit of alumni access to KCL careers events up to 5 years after graduation due to the current circumstances of job scarcity.
Our Pledge to Societies
Fund The Societies
We will introduce a Minimum Funding Guarantee (MFG) to all KCLSU approved societies, paid for by the Student Wellbeing Levy and our “Cut the Waste” initiatives. This is two upfront payments which qualifying societies may apply for at the start of each semester. A NEW DEAL FOR KCL!
Student Wellbeing Levy
Enact a 15% charge on external companies renting out KCL venues for events that do not directly benefit our students and societies, to save venue slots for KCL student activities and to raise funds for societies, student wellness, and improving accessibility. This will also incentivise external companies to partner up with our student-led societies and to not exclude our students from their events when booking venues, to avoid the Student Wellbeing Levy.
Streamline Venue Hire
We will cut the bureaucracy from the venue hiring process and make it fully automated, similar to Maughan library’s system. Currently, there are two members of staff which handle every single venue hire through an outdated spreadsheet, this is inefficient and causes constant bottlenecks. Our Student Wellbeing Levy will further disincentivise external companies from booking out all venue slots to free up King’s Venues for King’s Events.
Our Pledge to Attack the Cost-of-Living Crisis
Student Discounts
Negotiate KCL discounts and partnerships with brands and grocery stores for KCL students to alleviate the cost of living crisis. My SU will partner with “KCL on the Streets” and other student initiatives that make positive contributions to the local KCL community.
Student Accommodation
The Student Wellbeing Levy and “Cut the Cost” initiatives will reduce the cost of Student Accommodation by subsidising students in need in our efforts to alleviate the cost-of-living crisis. We will expand the King’s real estate portfolio to include cheaper properties on the outskirts of central London which are more affordable to our students.
KAAS Scheme
Expand King’s Affordable Accommodation Scheme (KAAS) to provide housing subsidies to prospective students. Many students are turned away from studying at King’s due to the cost of living in London. We must make the KAAS scheme more visible and more available to all students.
Emergency Student Fund
We will expand the emergency student fund by working alongside international embassies and charities to allow students in desperate need, such as international students, to acquire emergency financial aid from our Student Union.
FAB Guide
King’s Financial And Bursary (FAB) guide. King’s has many financial assistance and bursary schemes which students could take advantage of. However, all these schemes are scattered around our archaic website. We will compile the King’s Financial And Bursary guide to list all the schemes available to our Home and International students to reduce the costs of studying at King’s. You’ll never need to look for a guy in finance again!
Our Pledge to Defend the Freedom to Protest
Support the Right of Students to Peacefully Demonstrate
We will do everything in our power within the bounds of the KCLSU Articles of Association to protect our students’ right to assembly and freedom to protest through ensuring the safety of our student body and maximum wellbeing support.
Safety Networks to Support Student Protests
We pledge to support students in ensuring all demonstrations are safe for all members of the community. We will install safety networks to help protect the wellbeing of both demonstrators and locality.
KCLSU Political Neutrality
We pledge to keep the Student Union Politically Neutral regarding real world issues. However, we believe our Student Officers are entitled to hold whatever political belief they wish, without the fear of getting removed from office.
Discontinue Audio Recording in Seminars
While we believe all lectures should be recorded, seminars should be a free space for discussion. Therefore, we pledge to pressure the university to stop all recordings of seminars and group discussions to ensure non-attribution and protect our students and staff. We believe notes and discussion minutes should replace recordings for students who are unable to attend the discussions.
Our Pledge to the Muslim Community
Divestment
DIVEST DIVEST DIVEST!
Expanded Prayer Rooms
We will make use of the plentiful empty teaching space for prayer, especially on Fridays, to alleviate crowding for Jumu’ah [Surah al-Jumu’ah 62:9-10].
Keep Peace in Prayer Rooms
Students are eating and chatting in the prayer rooms during prayer times, which disturbs prayer for Muslim Students. We will dedicate strict prayer hours at certain times of the day, where silence is enforced to respect the prayers.
Free Friday Time Tables
We will continue the fight to make sure no exams, lectures and office hours happen on Friday to keep it as a day of rest. We will ensure Muslim students are not disadvantaged for meeting their religious obligations [Sahih Muslim 865].
Posters for Qibla
Although Qibla posters are available in prayer rooms, many students choose to use study spaces to perform Salah. In order to make finding Qibla easier, we will install posters similar to mihrabs in the private study spaces pointing towards the Kaaba [Surah al-Baqarah 2:144].
Food Committee
Enact a diverse student body quality assurance committee to review all food served at King’s for taste, hygiene and cultural authenticity on the menu. We will make sure more high quality Halal options are made available in KCL Kitchens. We will make sure that every time pork is served, an alternative halal option of lamb is also provided [Surah al-Ma’idah 5:3].
Inclusivity
Battle against Islamophobia on Campus.
Our Pledge to the Indian/Hindu Community
Graduation Ceremonies in India
Due to our close relationship with India, we will follow the example of the University of Essex and host biennial graduation ceremonies in Major Indian cities for international students.
Hindu Dharmic Prayer/ Meditation Room
We understand the importance of the recital of the Vedas, Sutras, Bhavanas, Mantras and Sahibs for our Hindu, Jain, Buddhist and Sikh students. We will allocate spaces to be inclusive for all students.
King’s Kitchen
Improve King’s Kitchen and other venues through allowing more and higher quality vegetarian and Satvik options. Remove the white-washed curries and give us some real Indian food!
Food Committee
Enact a diverse student body quality assurance committee to review all food served at King’s for taste, hygiene, and cultural authenticity on the menu. Certain food items, such as Indian cuisine, are gross misrepresentations of the cultures of international students, contributing to negative stereotypes on minority cultures.
Indian Food Stall
Due to the resounding success of the 2024 Cultural Food Fair, we will create a Student Union Indian Food Stall for students missing food from home, and other students wishing to try authentic Indian finger foods. We will negotiate the best prices from authentic suppliers and subsidise it to make it as cheap as possible for KCL students.
Inclusivity
We will battle against Hinduphobia and Indophobia on Campus.
Our Pledge to the Chinese Community
Warm drinking water
Our Chinese students are not used to drinking cold water. We will ensure warm drinking water stations are set up around Campus.
Lecture Video Chinese Subtitles
Since the introduction of hybrid learning, our Chinese students have found following lecture videos difficult due to the poor microphone quality. We will ask the different faculties to implement Chinese subtitle options for their lecture videos for more inclusivity.
Digital Graduation Certificates
A major concern faced annually by our graduating international students is the difficulty in getting jobs after graduation due to the graduation certificate taking too long to be shipped to them. Especially in countries like China, where competition to get jobs is so fierce that a day’s delay is enough to cause unemployment for a whole year. We will, therefore, have electronic certificates made available to all international students.
Graduation Ceremonies in China
Due to our sizable population of Chinese students at university and our ironclad friendship with the Chinese community, we will follow the success of UCL and Queen Mary’s in hosting biennial graduation ceremonies in major Chinese cities for international students.
Airport shuttle buses
Getting from the airport to accommodations is a major concern for many of our international students, especially first time visitors to the UK. We will therefore make sure there are coaches to pick up our international students before the start of each academic year.
Food Committee
We will enact a diverse student body quality assurance committee to review all food served at King’s for taste, hygiene, and cultural authenticity on the menu. Certain food items, such as the Chinese cuisine served, are gross misrepresentations of the cultures of international students, contributing to negative stereotypes on minority cultures.
Chinese Food Stall
We will create a Student Union Chinese Restaurant and/or Delivery Service for students missing food from home. We will negotiate the best prices and subsidies to make it as cheap as possible for KCL students.
Inclusivity
We will continue the battle against Sinophobia on Campus and promote the best of sound Confucian Principles.
Our Pledge to Promote Asian Culture and Anime
Asian Culture Appreciation Fund
Due to our large and growing population of Anime, Manga, Vocaloid, J/Kpop and J/Kdrama enthusiasts at university, we will implement an Asian Culture Appreciation Fund (ACAF). This fund will be used to promote Japanese and Korean culture throughout our university community in the form of university events, purchasing manga for the libraries, and tickets to popular concerts (e.g. Ado, Hatsune Miku, Yoasobi).
Cultural Festival/Bunkasai
We will hold an annual festival to celebrate and showcase wide-ranging aspects of Asian culture, from pop-culture to traditional elements. As well as host food stalls from the different societies similar to the popular Freshers Society Fair. We will collaborate with external partners, such as the Japan Foundation, the Japanese MEXT, and the South Korean MCST.
Manga in Libraries
We will introduce a wider variety of books, such as manga, manhwa, manhua, and light novels, in the libraries that will appeal to a broader audience.
Asian Food
Serve real Kimchi (Not pickles disguised as kimchi), serve real ramen (not instant noodles), and just serve real Asian food in general. We will introduce more diversity and higher quality rice options such as Japanese Sushi Rice and Nasi Goreng. We will install Asian food stalls on Campus to promote Asian culture, which is disproportionately represented.
Exchange Programmes
To provide our students with an enriched understanding of the world, we will expand the exchange programme at KCL to include exchange semesters/years at more Asian universities, such as enabling students at the Dickson Poon School of Law to study with their counterpart programmes in Japan. More exchange students at King’s would enable our students to make friends from all over the world, understand their cultures better and develop a more global network.
Our Pledge to International Students
Airport shuttle buses
We will follow the example of the University of Leeds to have free “Airport Pick-up Service”, which involves sending coaches to the major London Airports at the start of each academic year to pick up newly arrived international students. This will make life much easier, especially for students arriving in the UK for the first time with massive suitcases of luggage, unfamiliar with the inconveniences of TfL.
Campus shuttle bus
We pledge to continue supporting the Campus Shuttle Bus initiative originally proposed and currently led by KCLSU Student Trustee Samira Omar. We will follow the examples of Imperial College London, Universities of West London, Roehampton, East London, and Greenwich in providing a subsidised shuttle bus service to connect our scattered campuses. This will make travel between the campuses of Strand, Waterloo, Guy’s, Denmark Hill and St. Thomas far more convenient and cheaper.
Strengthen Relations to Embassies
As the guardians of their children, we will continue to work alongside international embassies in the interests of their nationals in our country and university.
International Emergency Student Fund
We will expand the emergency student fund to allow international students in desperate need to acquire emergency financial aid from our Student Union, as well as improving the signposting of this service in different languages.
Expanded Visa Advice Service
KCL’s Visa and International Student Advice service’s 5 day response time (often much longer during peak seasons) is simply not good enough. We will implement an expanded help desk by hiring additional part-time staff during peak seasons. We will look into implementing Retrieval Augmented Generation to assist staff in speeding up research for student queries.
Translations of Important Documents
Important documents such as the Academic Regulations Document are far too long and complex for many international students to read, especially if English is not their first language. We will strive to offer translated versions in as many languages as possible for those who would like to understand important KCL documents in their first language.
Our Pledge to Home Students
TfL Subsidies
We will work with other London universities to fight for a commuter pass and student travel card for London Home Students to reduce the cost of traveling to lectures. We will seek to introduce a student maximum cap for one way tube journeys.
Inclusivity
We will foster an environment where students from all backgrounds and regions of the United Kingdom can feel welcome at King’s.
Home Student Funding
The Student Wellbeing Levy and our “Cut The Waste” initiatives will go towards funding scholarships and sponsoring Home Students in need, who often come from far less privileged backgrounds than their international counterparts.
Our Pledge to STEM Students
Save The Labs
Longer opening hours for study facilities (Informatics, Biology and Physics Lab spaces, Engineering Quads, Libraries, etc). We will keep our study spaces open and fight to increase their opening hours.
MCF
Streamline the Mitigating Circumstance Form (MCF) process, as well as make it easier for Natural, Mathematical and Engineering Sciences (NMES) students to submit and have their MCF approved. Our NMES students submit the most MCF forms, but we are also the least vocal regarding the MCF process, leading to many rejections in circumstances where an MCF may have been appropriate.
NMES Representation
Having been a student rep for the past 3 years, Baiyu has extensive experience in NMES student representation. The NMES departments and faculties are often overlooked in the Student Union due to a lack of voting and active participation. We must improve student voice and representation through expanding the Student Rep programme which has been hugely successful over the past few years.
Student Experience
We will continue our ironclad friendship with our KCL Student Experience Officers and Vice Deans in improving the quality of the Modules taught in NMES through Student Rep feedback and Student Rep events. Previous KCLSU administrations usually hand off student reps and never collaborate directly with KCL staff. We will bridge this gap and work with our esteemed professors and student experience officers.
RTX GPUs
We will allocate funding for Nvidia Graphics Processing Units (GPUs) for students working on AI and other fields which require intensive computational power. The i9 Intel computers have been a start, but it is clear our students need more computation to stay competitive against the other universities in the UK.
Study Space Greenery
The lack of vegetation and poor ventilation in the STEM study areas adversely affect student mood and the quality of their study sessions. We will introduce more greenery, plants, and greenspace at the study areas so our STEM students could finally touch grass! We will fix the rusted windows to provide better ventilation.
Our Pledge to Med Students
Technical Issues
We will allocate funding and IT support to fix technical issues in Guy’s Campus venues such as the Greenwood Lecture Theatre and New Hunt House (NHH). The lecture theatres are far too cold during Winter months, and require their insulation to be redone.
NHH Toilets
Bathroom stalls have no doors at New Hunt’s House. We need to fix this.
Timetabling Issues
Concurrent lectures, especially around lunch time cause students to not be able to have lunch. We will work with Vice Deans and programme officers to sort out the timetables to make sure there is an hour free at noon for students to be able to eat.
Clearer Exam Specs
Clearer specifications for examination should be given to our students.
Eradicate the Rats
We will train Lenny the Cat to Eradicate the Rats at Guy’s Campus.
Internship Opportunities
We will negotiate more internship opportunities at Guy’s Hospital. We will expand the KURF internships, and allow 2nd year students to also participate in it if they missed out in their 1st year.
Our Pledge to Postgraduates
Postgrad Research
Despite King’s Doctoral Students’ Association (KDSA)’s best efforts, our Masters and PhD students often get the short end of the stick in terms of representation due to not participating in elections historically. We will work to increase KDSA presence and collaboration within the Union.
Postgrad Taught
Postgrad Taught students are only at KCL for a year and are often cut out of student life. We will introduce Fresher events tailored towards Postgrad students and integrating them with undergrad events. We will also increase representation in the KCLSU for taught postgrad students, as they are another traditionally underrepresented group.
Make The Space
We will ensure dissertation writing space for PhD and Masters students across all departments. Our PhD and postgraduate students are so often overlooked due to their lack of Student Union participation, we will voice their concerns on their behalf to make the space for their common areas and study spaces.
Microwaves, Fridges, Dishwashers
We understand the necessity of nutrition and a hot meal for our students and staff to produce good research and do well in exams. We will ensure offices across all faculties have the necessary working infrastructure to provide the best working environment for all our students and staff.
Postgrad Careers Service
The job search can be particularly hard after obtaining advanced qualifications due to the “overqualified dilemma”. We will offer our postgrads the most opportunities possible through working with King’s Careers and Employability (KC&E) to partner up with industrial and academic entities to boost the postgraduate employment rate. More signposting is needed for these opportunities to be useful.
Postgrad Job Opportunities
Our Research Assistant (RA) roles and postgrad programmes are being taken by students from other universities. We will adopt a KCL-First approach to make sure all internal job opportunities are advertised to our students first. KCL Postgraduates should not be excluded from roles they are more than qualified to fill.
King’s Talent Bank
Certain faculties are underserved and underrepresented by King’s Talent Bank (KTB). We will work with external companies to increase the number and variety of jobs available to our Postgrads on KTB.
Team-Building Fund
Our Postgrads and Research Groups are desperately in need of social events to de-stress and network. As we believe in the importance of Mental Health and Networking, we will implement a Postgraduate Team-Building Fund (PTF) dedicated towards subsidising team building events such as dinners, hikes, board games, and social activities. This fund will be made available to all postgrads across all faculties.
Our Pledge to the Alumni
Employability
Increase alumni and external recruitment events to improve employability after graduation. We will increase the maximum limit of alumni access to KCL careers events up to 5 years after graduation due to the current circumstances of job scarcity.
Lifetime KCLSU Membership
We will Follow Oxbridge, Imperial, and UCL’s lead in offering lifetime KCLSU membership/associate membership and free access at KCLSU facilities for alumni and retired staff (currently alumni must pay £30 each time they want to renew their library card, and £25 for associate membership each academic year).
Alumni Membership Card
King’s is a great university where students form great memories and attachment to our university. We will therefore initiate a scheme of offering Alumni Membership Cards (AMC) to graduated students up to 5 years. For £5, alumni are able to use King’s facilities, access student events, and vote in Student Union elections.
Alumni Emails
Our @kcl.ac.uk emails should not be nuked the moment we graduate, it should be turned into an alumni email domain like LSE and other London Universities. This allows alumni to obtain academic references and keep their data after graduation.
Alumni-Student Social Events
We understand the importance of the experience of our Alumni. We will dedicate more events for alumni to share knowledge and interact with current students. Strengthening alumni-student connections will be beneficial to current KCL students seeking career and networking opportunities.
Alumni Centre
We will dedicate the Macadam Building as the Alumni Centre, similar to LSE. Here, alumni could have a dedicated space to network and socialise with current students and each other.
AKC Programme
We will abolish the tedious 2-year AKC Programme. Every graduated alumni should automatically reserve the right to use the post-nominal ‘AKC’, similar to how it is in Imperial (AIC/AICSM). In such a way, we preserve the historical traditions of the college without disadvantaging students taking unconventional study arrangements.

Our Pledge to the LGBT+ Community
Inclusivity
Battle against Homophobia, Transphobia and any other forms of discrimination and/or discriminatory attitudes on Campus.
Toilets
Increase number of single occupancy Gender Neutral Toilets. Our university’s shameful cost-cutting through transforming female toilets into Gender Neutral Toilets rather than making separate toilets for each gender is an absolute disgrace. We will make sure that there are communal male and female toilets, as well as single occupancy gender neutral/ disabled toilets for all of the major campuses.
LGBT+ Buddy Scheme
A separate Buddy Scheme which voluntarily partners up LGBT+ students to those who register as mentors. This can provide a source of support, safety, and community to LGBT+ students to navigate King’s and the wider world.
Oppose Virtue Signaling
Our Campaign Committee is strongly opposed to hand-waving and virtue signalling gestures. We prioritise practical solutions which will actually provide benefit to our students, over simple lip service and slogans ineffectual to the ground reality for our LGBT+ students. We value, above all else, a sense of safety and community on campus, for all our students.
