Mahdi Ahmad

I believe that we will win!

Hi everyone, I’m Mahdi, and I am delighted to be applying for student trustee with KCLSU this year. I am a second-year History and Political Economy student, looking to make the student union a more enjoyable, inclusive, transparent and ethical environment for all of us. ________________________________________

Vision & Goals

1. Financial Transparency & Accountability

As trustee, I aim to ensure students have a clear understanding of where their money is being spent and advocate for greater transparency in SU finances. For KCL to disclose where exactly our tuition fees are going. Moreover, I am to push for open financial reports and more student involvement in budget decisions, in turn creating greater financial transparency and student engagement

2. Decolonizing the Narrative

As a history student, I understand how colonialism exists within every facet of society even today, not only in what we are taught but also in the form of policies. As a Student Trustee, I will champion decolonizing the narrative at King’s by ensuring that our university and SU actively challenge outdated, Eurocentric perspectives. This means advocating for a curriculum that reflects diverse global histories, amplifying marginalized voices, and ensuring that student initiatives promoting decolonial thought receive the support they deserve. We must dismantle systemic biases, create inclusive spaces for critical discussions, and push for real institutional change—because decolonization isn’t just a buzzword, it’s a responsibility.

3. Sustainability & Ethical Responsibility

As a Student Trustee, I will actively promote environmentally sustainable policies within the SU and across campus, ensuring that our university takes real action against climate change. For example, advocating for reducing food waste, which is a huge issue occurring daily in King’s as well as a commitment to greener practices in events and operations. Additionally, I will push for ethical investment and procurement practices, ensuring that KCLSU does not support companies that exploit workers, harm the environment, destroy buildings and homes or engage in unethical practices. Sustainability and social responsibility must be at the heart of everything we do, and I will work to make sure our union leads by example.

4. Fostering a More Inclusive Campus

As a Trustee, I will ensure that students of all faiths and other marginalized communities are truly heard and represented in SU decision-making. Too often, the concerns of faith groups and ethnic minorities are sidelined, whether it’s access to prayer spaces, halal food options, or protections against discrimination. I will push for stronger policies that safeguard religious accommodations, fight against Islamophobia and racism, and create spaces where Muslim students and other marginalized groups feel empowered, not just included. KCLSU must be an actively anti-discriminatory body that doesn’t just talk about diversity but works tirelessly to ensure that every student, regardless of their background, can fully thrive at King’s.

Why Vote for Me?

As a student trustee, I will bring strong leadership, an activist spirit, and the ability to speak up and be heard. As the Founder of KCL House of Wisdom and a political representative for the Indo-Pak Development Forum, I have led impactful discussions, engaged in student activism, and used my public speaking skills to amplify important causes. My experience in governance and advocacy has equipped me to challenge traditional narratives, stand tall in the face of injustice and navigate tricky situations. Most importantly, I am deeply committed to financial transparency and ensuring that every student has a voice in how KCLSU is run. Too often, decisions are made behind closed doors—I will work to break that cycle by pushing for accountability, open communication, and genuine student representation. If you want a fearless, articulate, and action-driven leader who will fight for your interests, vote for me. Together, we can build a KCLSU that truly works for all of us.
