Studying is temporary, music is forever x
Hi! I’m Rosie, a second year BA Social Sciences student. I am the co-host of the radio show The Underground Hour, which spotlights new music, new artists, and the latest pop culture.
I have experience interviewing, liaising with, and promoting bands and artists, and am super passionate about everything to do with music!! I truly believe that music is so important, and therefore we need to continue to make it accessible (looking at you Ticketmaster) and give voices to as many artists as possible. As a result, the work done at KCL Radio is vital in keeping music alive. I’d loooooove to help play a part in this by continuing to represent the radio station and show everyone how cool it is :)
Using my experience in music, I would be committed to increasing the interviews done with artists and bands, especially when it comes to those from KCL (e.g. from the variety of music and band societies) who create music themselves to give exposure and opportunities to everyone across the university, whether that be in interviewing, content creation, or music. This could also help if students want to try and get into the music industry after university, therefore providing experience which can be super useful when looking at post-graduation.
I would also love to use these relationships created with artists to hold more live music based events within the society, so that grassroots music venues and small artists are protected and promoted (and because gigs are super fun right!!).
When it comes to increasing listeners to the radio station, I’d work to lengthen the non-stop music playlist so that, especially on the weekends, there is less repetition among the tracks played and a wider variety of genres, making it more engaging and anticipatory for people who tune in frequently. I’d also love to get everyone across the society involved with the non-stop playlist so that KCL Radio can be even more enjoyable, through collaboration and contributions, which can also turn the society into more of a tight knit community <3 This could be through the use of the Instagram page and the Whatsapp channels etc. I also see the importance of having a recognisable identity for KCL Radio, and would ensure that the vibe and flow of the playlists are cohesive but also still interesting and that make people to want to come back for more!
If you can’t already tell, I love music so much (honourable mention to the consistent curation of Spotify playlists and the endless use of the mixing feature in my free time x) and would appreciate it sooososo much if you voted for me ;) I enjoy being part of KCL Radio so much, and can assure you that along with this and my passion for music, I’d be always be 100% dedicated to increasing engagement with the radio station so that our shows have more exposure too and our work is recognised even more (!), along with increasing involvement with live music and artists themselves, and lots of sick music events that can make our society even more of a fun community.
